Frontier SeriesTM

Perched on the marshy edge of the largest freshwater lake in Texas is perhaps the most aptly named outpost in the world – the tiny town of Uncertain Texas, population 85. Uncertain has a palpable sense of mystery that is matched only by its beauty. Simply put, it is one of the most evocative places I’ve ever seen. Geologists and scientists disagree about the exact cause, but they agree that Caddo Lake was formed suddenly in the late 1700s or early 1800s. Its shallow yet expansive waters quickly became a haven for wildlife and the stoic bald cypress trees that dot the lake. Lake levels suddenly started to retreat in the 1900s so dams were built to maintain water levels. Today, the lake is threatened by invasive species, one velcro-like plant that doubles in size every two days and has evaded multiple eradication efforts. Uncertain is even said to be one of the last strongholds for Bigfoot, with more reported sightings here since 1965 than any place in the south. Things in Uncertain may be uncertain, yet it is hauntingly beautiful; unworldly, intriguing, peaceful, and thought provoking. It’s the kind of place that reminds you that everything is changing – it’s all pending in one way or another. Perhaps it is this perspective that makes visitors ponder and cherish the beauty and gift of the present.
