Piopiotahi,​ Fiordland National Park,​ New Zealand
A​ calm and​ nearly flat​ tidepool​ stands​ in​ stark contrast to the intensely vertical terrain of​ Milford​ Sound, also known as Piopiotahi. The highest mountain in the world to rise​ directly​ out of the​ ocean, Mitre Peak,​ stretches​ nearly​ a mile into the​ dramatic​ clouds​ o​f early evening. As a land​ of extremes, this​ rare​ calm and contemplative​ moment​ a​llowed the perfect window​ for me​ to​ capture the layers and levels of Piopiotahi for further​ inspection. I can’t help but to glance back​ to the solitary tree accenting the horizon–one of the only trees​ in​ all of Milford Sound​ to secure​ a level plot from which to grow​.
