Query
Uncertain, Texas
At the height of fall, I set off to explore the mysterious bayous of Caddo Lake with a local guide. These waterways are littered with isolated trees, so naturally I told my guide about my obsession with lone-trees and showed him a few images from my portfolio. He quickly adopted my quest, and as we motored along he would slow at each passing tree and look at me as I analyzed one after the next. A few days into the inquisition, we came cross this striking Bald Cypress standing curiously in only 2 feet of water. I was initially drawn in by it’s peak autumn color which was much more vibrant than most, but as we approached a certain personality and quirk emerged — this tree’s stance and form exuded such a fascinating poise and the trees in the distance perfectly accented the curiosity and scale of the scene. As my guide released the throttle the slowing boat created ripples which extended towards the tree — the broken reflection seemed to mimic the tree’s already alluring personality. I call the resulting image Query as this lone-tree begs a certain intrigue as it dances among its own impressionistic reflection.
